Maureen Kirwen Huffman is known for her sinuous and complex carvings of flowers and other organic forms using natural materials, primarily stone – alabaster, soapstone and marble – to form the core of her award winning, museum- quality sculptures. Maureen has perfected her craft with a refined juxtaposition of strength, elegance and inventiveness. Not afraid to attack the raw material, she possesses an almost innate ability to visualize the form captured within.  She continues to reveal a command of her medium by combining metals and stone, resulting in a bold, unique and inventive style that has achieved increasing public exposure and accolade. Maureen has studied carving at the University of Toledo and the Vermont Carving Studio. She taught stone carving in the creative arts program at Ohio State University and has been a featured artist in gallery shows around the US. Maureen’s studio, the Kirwen Art Gallery in Elmore, provides a space for her to create and display exhibits, and hosts emerging artists from around the region.
